How to Connect a Third-Party ETL Tool

Today's demands on businesses and their Business Intelligence tools are growing with the ever-increasing volume of available data. The source, structure, collection, and process of transformation and loading of your data(bases) should not stand in the way of processing your data flow and end-user analysis.

In SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, you already have access to a great variety of data connections, and you can upload and access your data in several ways.

In order, for example, to load your already transformed data into SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, you can establish a connection to a third-party ETL tool of your choice. To this end, you will want to create a Schema.

Let's now look at how to do that:

First of all, local schema are created in the Spaces directly.

In your selected Space, click on the + sign in OPEN SQL SCHEMAS

Give your Schema a name.

Schema Name, host name, username and password will be generated automatically.

Very important: remember the password! If you lose it, you will have to reset the password.

Copy the host name and password.

Then open your third party ETL tool (that speaks SQL).

You can now connect your third party ETL tool to the specific space in DWC, using the host name and password.

If the connection has been successful, you should be able to see your local schema in your ETL tool, and – vice versa – you should see the connected ETL tool's databases in the space on SAP Data Warehouse Cloud under Local Schema.

From here on, you can now use the connected external data from your third-party tool to build data models using the Data Builder – just like usual.

The great thing is that we can now combine data sets from external and internal sources – seamlessly.

By the way: This process applies to more than just ETL tools. All third-party tools that speak SQL and use SSL connection can be connected to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud.
